Tourism in Tinn

Rjukan is said to be 'the cradle of tourism in Norway'. The waterfall 'Rjukanfossen' was early recognised as one of greatest natural attractions in Europe. As early as the 17. hundreds tourists came to the place for the awe-inspiring view of the mighty waterfall. The powerplants have regretfully reduced the waterfall, but many other attractions makes Rjukan an attractiv place to spend the holidays.

Rjukan is fabled for the daring sabotage against the heavy water. The operation is regarded as one of the most successful during WW2.

Nature has given us 'Gaustatoppen', by many regarded as the most beautiful mountain in Norway. It towers majestic above Rjukan with 1883 m. Rjukan also is the southern gateway to the largest national park in Norway, The Hardangervidda mountain plateau. The first aerial cableway in North-Europe will get you quickly up on the plateau.

Try the pages of Rjukan Tourist Office for more information about these attractions and more.
